Featured applications and services have usually benefited the developers themselves as well as the customers. From the beginning of bada project, we have carefully thought of the way to support bada developers to create valuable implementations. The main objective of our developer site, bada Developers, is to assist developers to become experts in bada development.

Throughout the site, extensive reference materials and tutorial contents needed to produce an application are offered. Events of bada such as bada Developer Days and bada Developer Challenge are also going along. And there is a technical blog dealing in components of bada and tips for development. The development tools will soon be available to the public. Currently, hundreds of mobile application companies are going on their own products, which will be sold at bada application store.

When designing bada Developers, the first thing we considered was to deliver a space where developers could start easily and quickly. We have worked on tutorial videos and reference guides to be practical and comprehensive enough to solve the problems directly which often occur when a developer begins to learn a new platform. And we are preparing the forums to be a comfortable open area to discuss issues, to get answers, and to find new ideas for developers.

The potential of bada

As you may know, Samsung has sold over 200 million mobile phones in 2009. Among the sales, the number of full touch screen mobile phones is approximately 40 million, confirming its leadership in this fast-growing market segment. The ratio of touch mobile device in Samsung’s handset shipment in 2009 is around 20%, which was 5% in 2008. This means, Samsung’s touch screen handset has come to meet the requirements of main stream consumers who enjoy the convenience of an intuitive user interface, powerful multimedia features and sleek designs.

According to Strategy Analytics, a leading company in providing strategic and tactical support for business planners, worldwide touchphone volumes shipped in 2009 is expected to reach 150 million, more than doubling from 61 million in 2008. The touchphone category has defied the economic recession to become one of the world’s most active device markets, providing above-average growth in a period of industry weakness.

Samsung bada is professedly for a smartphone platform for mass customers, inheriting the merits of current Samsung mobile phones. In 2010, bada will be applied to a significant portion of Samsung’s touch mobile handsets and it is not difficult to conceive that the volume of Samsung’s touch phones in 2010 will be bigger than last year. Therefore it is sure that bada devices will successfully make enough market size for the smartphone ecosystem.
We, the bada team, have focused on more innovative user interface, service oriented features and extensible core functions. We also have full support plans for developers such as bada Developer Challenge, bada Developer Day and the developer site, to win together. With bada’s specialized components and support system, developers can easily create values for customers and opportunities for themselves.

Presentations for the press

On 8th December, we had the bada Launch Ceremony, providing two sessions: an afternoon session for the press and an evening session for partners, content and service providers for bada platform. The vision, features, and support for the ecosystem of Samsung bada were presented at the event. Without doubt, more than 100 journalists and bloggers and 200 bada partners who attended the ceremony showed strong interests and high expectations toward the future that bada will bring to Samsung customers.

The technical part of bada platform was presented during the evening session. For developers who want to know the technical features, we advise to watch the video clips in the previous post also.
